Threads of the Day

Mmm we love a good matchy matchy fit.

And today we're going to talk about the balance of a good outfit. I apply these rules to my summer wardrobe more than my winter wardrobe, but the conversation is still relevant.

Now I am a person who wears chunky boots year-round, and while it's easy to get away with baggy clothes and boots during the winter months, here's what you'll want to do as your base outfit (the one everyone sees when you take off your coat) or an outfit for the summer months.

With chunky boots being the main focus in this post, we're going to assume you have your boots picked out. Now, you can do little top, big bottoms or big top, little bottoms.

Again, this really comes in handy for summer months, because for example, I would do a pair of shorts, a top that's either big or flowy or poofy, and then the chunky boots. This draws more people into the outfit because there are things that pop (the shirt and shoes) and things that sit back and let the other pieces pop because they are smaller/simpler. This will draw people in to the outfit without even adding in colors or patterns.

On the other hand, if we go little top with big bottoms, then I would wear the boots, a small top or something tight/simple (something that won't distract or jump out), and then maybe so flowy pants or a fun skirt. Again, this allows the boots and bottoms pop, while the shirt somewhat takes the back seat for them.

Now, I don't think this is something you have to follow whenever you put an outfit together. There are always exceptions and at the end of the day just wear whatever the hell you enjoy. I just know when I started branching out with my style, I had no idea what was too much or too little, and this was the best way for me to keep it simple, while still playing with new pieces. It's also a great idea if you have something in your closet that you want to showcase in an outfit, and you want it to get the attention it needs.

Anyways..sorry for the long post today, but I hope it helps!
